At the monthly Axminster & Lyme LBL Connect meeting in June at Ria’s Workshop & Space I was delighted to be asked to present at a Lyme Bay Ladies meeting about SEO (search engine optimisation – the art of getting found on Google). SEO at it’s best is a strategy that envelops all of your marketing. It’s a system that includes everything you do to promote your business – not just changing a few things on your website.
First of all your website should be the hub of everything you do – every marketing activity. You can find out more about that here.
Use social media to post interesting stuff and direct people to a relevant and optimized website page; take along a QR code to networking meetings so people can look at your online presence and bookmark it immediately; build relationships with other relevant businesses to create backlinks and to share ideas.
But you need a strategy not tactics. On-page SEO (optimizing content of your site using keywords) and off-page optimization (anything you do such as creating backlinks) and technical SEO (site structure, broken links, mobile friendliness, not sharing duplicate content) will only gain significant traction if you have a strategy that addresses each part.
Having said that, Expert, Authoratitive and Trustworthy (EAT) content that:
Keeps users engaged and on the page;
Uses keywords naturally and doesn’t overstuff with them;
Includes links to other parts of your site;
Is relevant to what your potential audience is looking for;
Will do well… Good content is like fine wine – it will just get better.
If you’d like to know more about how to get your site ranking in Google, I’m offering a free discovery call to work out what you need to do on a high level.

We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month (excluding Aug & Dec).
