On the back of the success of the first coffee morning, we have set up another date to give everyone another chance to help make poppies for what is going to be the biggest community-built art installation in West Dorset for Armistice Day.
Please join us in Symondsbury Tithe Barn from 9.30am-2.00pm on Tuesday, 6 Novemer 2018 to help make poppies for the River of Poppies that will flow down Colmers Hill on Remembrance Sunday.
PLEASE CONFIRM ATTENDANCE AND BRING SCISSORS WITH YOU. Symondsbury Estate will provide the essentials to make the poppies but if you want to personalise them, please bring your own craft materials.

What’s it all about?
The installation will cover the south side of Colmers Hill facing the A35 Dorset Road and the Jurassic Coast. The poppies will be made up of craft materials, and are also being handmade by local schools, volunteers and community groups. The poppies are tied onto netting donated by Bridport net and rope companies, to commemorate Bridport’s WWI history in netting, which will form the shape of a river down the hill.
Symondsbury Estate hopes that the installation will encourage people far and wide to remember and reflect on those who have fallen in wars, and will kindly donate to The Royal British Legion.
The installation stretches over 170m in length on Colmers Hill, beginning at the top of the hill where many of its trees were planted at the end of WWI.
On Wednesday 7th to Friday 9th November, schools and groups will be joining Symondsbury Estate to begin building the River of Poppies on Colmers Hill. The Royal British Legion will join Symondsbury Estate along with the many groups and volunteers who have helped with the installation.
On Armistice Day, Sunday 11th November, the River of Poppies will be visible on Colmers Hill whilst being lit by red lighting from 11am-11pm.
